1. Acceptance of These Terms

These Terms of Use govern access to and use of onlinesafty.org, its articles, pages, comments, newsletters, forms, media, and related services controlled by Online Safty. By accessing or using the website, you agree to these Terms and the policies incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the website.

Additional terms may apply to a specific service, commercial agreement, event, subscription, syndication arrangement, or contributor relationship. Where a written agreement conflicts with these Terms, the written agreement governs the relevant relationship.

2. Informational and Editorial Nature

Online Safty publishes journalism, analysis, opinion, research-based commentary, reviews, interviews, and other editorial material. Content is provided for information and public discussion. It is not individualized legal, medical, financial, investment, tax, mental-health, cybersecurity, safety, or other professional advice.

Readers are responsible for obtaining qualified advice and verifying information before acting where a decision may affect rights, health, finances, security, employment, legal obligations, or personal safety. Publication does not create a professional-client, fiduciary, advisory, or confidential relationship.

3. Accuracy, Updates, and Availability

We work to publish accurate material, but information may be incomplete, contested, delayed, superseded, or affected by later events. Dates, laws, prices, platform functions, company claims, security conditions, and public records may change. We may correct, update, clarify, annotate, archive, restrict, or remove content in accordance with our editorial policies.

We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, permanent availability, compatibility with every device, or freedom from every technical error. We may modify or discontinue website functions for maintenance, security, legal, editorial, or operational reasons.

4. Permitted Use

You may access the website for lawful personal, educational, research, journalistic, and other non-infringing purposes. You may share links and quote limited portions where permitted by law, with accurate attribution and without creating a misleading impression of endorsement.

Systematic copying, republication, commercial exploitation, database extraction, model training, text and data mining, translation, syndication, or redistribution may require permission unless a statutory exception applies. Requests should be sent to legal@onlinesafty.org.

5. Prohibited Conduct

You must not use the website to break the law, infringe rights, impersonate another person, distribute malware, probe systems outside the Security and Vulnerability Disclosure Policy, interfere with service, harvest personal data, evade access controls, manipulate traffic, automate abusive requests, submit defamatory or threatening content, or misrepresent sponsored material as independent editorial work.

You must not use Online Safty’s name, logos, article layout, author identity, or content to create a false publication, fraudulent endorsement, deceptive advertisement, counterfeit article, manipulated screenshot, or fabricated quotation.

6. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, the website’s original text, branding, design elements, graphics, photographs, videos, audio, databases, and compilations are owned by or licensed to Online Safty and protected by applicable intellectual-property law. Third-party material remains the property of its respective owner and may be used under license, permission, public-domain status, quotation rights, fair dealing, fair use, or another lawful basis.

No right or license is granted except as expressly stated. Attribution does not by itself authorize reproduction. Removal of copyright, credit, metadata, watermark, or disclosure information is prohibited where the law allows.

7. User Submissions and Comments

When you submit a comment, message, correction request, pitch, document, image, or other material, you confirm that you have the right to submit it and that it does not unlawfully infringe privacy, confidentiality, intellectual property, or other rights.

For public comments and other material intended for publication, you grant Online Safty a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, reproduce, edit for length or clarity, moderate, display, archive, and distribute the material in connection with the website and its editorial record. You retain ownership. Private correspondence and source material are handled according to their context and are not made public merely because they were received.

8. Moderation and Enforcement

We may review, delay, reject, edit, close, hide, or remove user submissions under the Community and Comments Policy. We may restrict access or block abusive activity where reasonably necessary for safety, security, legal compliance, or service integrity. Moderation decisions do not create a duty to monitor every submission.

9. External Links and Third-Party Services

The website may link to or embed third-party sites, documents, platforms, payment providers, analytics services, social networks, media players, or other resources. A link is not an endorsement. Online Safty does not control third-party availability, security, accessibility, privacy, accuracy, or terms. Use of a third-party service is governed by that provider’s rules.

We may use affiliate or sponsored links only with the disclosures described in our commercial policy.

10. Privacy and Cookies

Personal data is handled under the Privacy Policy. Cookies and similar technologies are addressed in the Cookie Policy. Where consent is legally required for non-essential technology, such technology should not be activated before a valid choice is made.

11. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the website and its content are provided on an “as available” basis without warranties that every item is complete, current, error-free, suitable for a particular purpose, or free from all harmful components. Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Views expressed in signed opinion or contributor pieces belong to the identified author unless the article expressly states an institutional position.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Online Safty and its publisher, editors, contributors, contractors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive loss arising from use of, inability to use, or reliance on the website. This includes loss caused by external links, service interruption, unauthorized third-party conduct, or a reader’s failure to obtain professional advice.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, deliberate misconduct, death or personal injury caused by negligence where such exclusion is unlawful, or any other liability that cannot legally be limited.

13. Indemnity

Where permitted by law, a person who knowingly uses the website unlawfully or submits material that violates another person’s rights may be responsible for reasonable losses and costs directly resulting from that conduct. This provision does not apply to legitimate criticism, good-faith corrections, protected whistleblowing, lawful security research, or ordinary consumer use.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect legal, technical, editorial, or operational changes. Material changes will be identified by a new effective date and, where appropriate, a notice. Continued use after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance only to the extent permitted by applicable law.

15. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the law applicable to the publisher identified on the Publisher and Legal Information page, without overriding mandatory consumer, privacy, employment, speech, or procedural rights that apply in another jurisdiction. Courts with lawful jurisdiction may hear a dispute.

Before beginning a claim, parties are encouraged to raise the issue through the appropriate corrections, complaints, privacy, security, commercial, or legal channel, provided that doing so does not prejudice a statutory limitation period or urgent remedy.
